Early Voting Starts Tomorrow - Don’t Miss Your Chance to Vote in a New Direction

Dear Friends,

Two years ago at this time, you, I and many other Houstonians put forward a herculean effort to help Barack Obama overwhelmingly carry the 18th Congressional District and Harris County during Presidential Primary.  We were driven to victory then because of our desire to see dramatic change in the leadership of our great nation.   My candidacy offers a new direction for the people of the 18th Congressional District.

We can embrace the new direction tomorrow by Voting Early.  I urge you to get family, friends, and co-workers to take the time and Vote Early.

During this campaign, I have been asked why I am running and can I win?  My response has been as follows:  America is a great democracy where the people are given the opportunity to choose leadership.  We choose our leaders by their examples of delivering meaningful services to their communities.

With your assistance, we can have a campaign where the voters of the 18th Congressional district can be provided a choice and elect a member of congress that will provide leadership in a new direction.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. ~ President Barack Obama - EARLY VOTE TOMORROW CLICK HERE FOR LOCATIONS http://ow.ly/17Ank

Now is the Time to Rebuild Congressional District 18

I am writing to ask for your support of my candidacy for the 18th Congressional District of Texas. You were the key to victory during the 2008 Presidential Election that put Barack Obama in office. Now we are faced with another historic opportunity in the 18th Congressional District. For the first time in 16 years, we have the chance to elect someone to that seat who will truly put your needs ahead of their own political agenda. You can elect someone to this seat who will stand with President Obama in support of his agenda for our nation. I am that candidate.

Over the past 16 years, District 18 has suffered. We’ve lost jobs and businesses have closed. Our children are dropping out of school at alarming rates. We in turn incarcerate thousands of young men and women from our district who are under-educated and can’t get jobs. Our Representative in Congress earmarked money for law enforcement and transportation; but not for job training and education. We need jobs now more than ever before; better opportunities for small businesses; greater access to health care; and a stronger educational system to prepare our children to compete for the jobs of the future.

Proven Leadership

I have a proven track record of service to my community. I have humbly served in Houston’s City Council to bring real dollars back to my district for development purposes. I brought 1.9 Billion dollars back to District B for our 5-year Capital Improvement Project (CIP) for
infrastructure projects that are designed to draw business to the area, create jobs, and to improve the quality of life for residents in the district.
I have been the strongest advocate for small, minority and women-owned businesses and professionals in their effort to win city contracts. I sponsored the Proximity to Opportunity Seminars in partnership with the airport system. My efforts caused the “unbundling” of large contracts to allow opportunities for such businesses to go after and secure city contracts.

The Right Choice for District 18

I will bring respect back to the district in which Barbara Jordan led a powerful movement; and where the Honorable Mickey Leland paved the way for others. I grew up in the shadows of Mickey Leland. My mother, Cleo Glen Johnson was one of his chief aides; and has since worked alongside so many of your fellow precinct chairs over the years. Barbara Jordan and Mickey Leland were servants of the people. This seat should be held by one who will likewise serve the people.

I cannot do this without you. I humbly ask for your help to mobilize voters in your precinct. We need to push hard to get as many voters out during Early Vote from February 16 to February 26.

Again, I look forward to making history with you in the 18th Congressional District of Texas. I look forward to your vote. I thank you in advance for helping me to rebuild District 18!

Respectfully,
